Kim Baney

Kim Baney is from Warsaw, Indiana. Although she loved drawing as a child and teenager, she never attended any formal art education as her focus was always on playing trumpet and music. It wasn’t until 11 years ago, her sailing and professional artist friend, Robert A. Hudson, was talking about a special series on mountains and she mentioned drawing mountains as a child. He encouraged her to draw something, showed her how to make it “come alive”, and the passion for drawing was born. Since then, she’s had several graphite pencil shading and technique lessons with Robert and always tries to remember his best advice, “You must understand what you cannot see, to better draw what you can.”

“I love to draw the things I’m passionate about including animals, especially big cats, people, meaningful places, and most recently have combined two of my favorite passions, racing and artwork, to start a Series of 4 Women in Motorsports pieces.” The first two have been completed which include “Pippa”, depicting British Indy Car Driver Pippa Mann, and “Spirit of the American Woman”, featuring 1992 Indy 500 Rookie of the Year, Lyn St. James. Lyn was a good friend of Dane Miller’s and drove the Biomet sponsored Indy car in the 1990’s.

Outside of artwork, she works full-time at Zimmer Biomet, plays trumpet in the Grace Wind Ensemble and previously for 10 years with the Symphony of the Lakes, enjoys sailing catamarans, traveling, and driving off-road Jeep trails.
