A little History about LAA:

LAA Logo SmallLakeland Art Association was formed in 1957 by a group of artists in Kosciusko County.  A central figure of the group, Fred Olds, was a local high school teacher and became  a very well-known artist.  Lakeland Art Association has some of his work in their permanent collection.

Lila O'Connell at the gallery. In 1993 Lila O’Connell, a contemporary of Fred Olds, opened the first Lakeland Art Center/Gallery.   This now gave the Lakeland Art Association members and other artists a home in which to meet and encourage each other.  Lila served as gallery director until the year 2000.

1994 saw the incorporation of the Lakeland Art Association, Inc.  Thus began regular fine art exhibits and workshops/classes.  Tax exempt status was secured in 1996. Lila oversaw and was responsible for all of this growth.

Lakeland Art Association is made up of a variety of supporters.  From the mature, well-recognized award-winning artists to the fledgling beginner,  those who love art are encouraged to join and participate.  Classes/workshops are held frequently to help each artist develop their style and technique.

Today this flourishing group of artists mentor youngsters in the community, provide scholarships, exhibits and competitions to showcase a variety of work, offer monthly art related programs of interest, and do much to enhance the arts in the community.
